What is a European Mount?

A Euro mount is also known as a western mount, skull mount, or western skull mount. Simply put, it is just the skull of the animal hung for display. These types of mounts have famous roots in western movies, popularizing the steer skulls hanging on walls, trucks,fences and many other surfaces. Some people prefer these mounts for several reasons. Cost, space, and time being a few. Shoulder mounts or full body mounts take up a lot of display room and the cost you face for this is staggering depending on size, animal and display choice.

Euro mounts are typically hung on the wall using a simple skull hook, or on a shelf for display. You can imagine it’s much easier to have 3 or 4 skulls vs 3 or 4 full sized animals up for display.

It also is a much shorter process with fewer steps. You do not need to worry about tanning hides, stretching, or being a brilliant artist to make the animal recognizable. Simply skin, feed the skull to your bugs and your almost done! Our colony will clean a deer skull in a matter of days. The last step is the longest, the degreaseing process. This varies among animals, depending on just how greasy their bodies will be. This can take weeks right on up to MONTHS to get those brilliant white bones that you see for sale. The degreasing process also makes the bones more and more delicate the longer you have to go, typically the skull needs to be glued back together which isn’t always the easiest! For that reason, we charge extra to degrease a skull here at Deathorations. Simply because of the time it takes, and space.
